Shaker Slant-Front Desk
(New Lebanon, New York, ca. 1840)
Purchased from the Hancock Shakers with an oral history of having originated at New Lebanon. Pine, butternut, and cherry with fruitwood and porcelain knobs, in red wash. In its original form, the desk may have had an upper section with two paneled doors. A hidden drawer is concealed behind the upper drawer in the base section, an unusual feature that also appears on other New Lebanon case furniture.
