Reiner Reineccius , or Reinhard Reineck (1541 - 1595 ) was a German historian.
In 1578 he became Professor of History at the University of Frankfurt (Oder) .
From there he accepted a professorship at the University of Helmstedt .
His work "Syntagma de familiis quae in monarchiis tribus prioribus rerum potitae sunt" (4 vols., Basel 1574–1580) and its later revision and expansion, "Historia Julia sive syntagma hervicum" (Helmstedt 1594–97), brought him fame.
Häberlein published "De Reineccius meritis im historiam" (Helmstedt 1746) about his work. In later literature and in the local history of Steinheim, the medieval historian is also referred to as Reiner Reineccius Steinhemius.
He made significant contributions to the study of ancient history and is considered the most famous son of the town of Steinheim , which named a street in his honor.
