About the artist

Jörg Remé (born 1941), born in Danzig, is a German-Dutch painter whose artistic practice developed through extensive European training and cross-cultural exchange. He studied at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Nuremberg, the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, absorbing diverse artistic traditions that would inform his mature work.

Remé's formative years were shaped by his apprenticeship in the studio of painter Schröner in Nuremberg and his residency as guest artist at the 'Beckmann' studio in the Villa Romana in Florence. This rigorous foundation across Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy provided him with a nuanced understanding of European painting traditions and techniques. His sustained engagement with these different cultural and artistic contexts enabled him to develop a distinctive pictorial language. Later, he shared this accumulated knowledge as an instructor at the Royal Academy of Art and Design in 's-Hertogenbosch, contributing to the education of a new generation of artists.

Remé's work has received significant recognition, including first prize at the 8th International Painting Prize in Knokke-Heist. His paintings are held in prominent public collections, including Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and the Museum of Modern Art, affirming his standing within the institutional art world and ensuring the continued visibility of his contribution to European painting.
