Description
Every so often I find a "treasure" that I feel privileged to own even though I know it will be for only a short time until it finds its way into its permanent home. This set is such a find!
This is a 1920s Art Deco bronze and marble telephone stand with chair attributed to Oscar Bach, New York Designer and Manufacturer. He was a technically adept, stylistically diverse, and commercially successful master metalsmith. Born in Germany, he studied at both the Royal Academy and Imperial Academy of Art in Berlin before becoming artistic director of metallic arts firm in Hamburg.
These cabinets are currently popular today as bar cabinets or just fabulous room accents. The back has a slot with slot in a door to allow for the telephone cord. The red velvet chair seat is surrounded by small red silk tassels. The black veined marble top is exceptionally beautiful. Bronze figures surround the cabinet on 3 sides. Notice the crouching lion and ball & claw feet on the chair (see close-up photos.)
The last photo shows it displayed in my home occupying a very small space next to a door and hallway making it perfect for an apartment or any size home.
Measurements: Cabinet 41 1/2" to top of marble, 46" to top of brass riser (overall height 46"), 13" deep 25 1/2" wide (measuring marble top) Cabinet below marble 25" wide x 11" deep. Chair Seat 14" wide x 13" deep, 19" high. (If you need additional measurements, please contact seller.)
