Reducing the landscape to its essential elements of sea, sky and shoreline, Ball demonstrates an accomplished understanding of composition, allowing broad horizontal planes and delicate tonal transitions to create a remarkable sense of tranquillity. Thin oil glazes produce luminosity throughout the sky and shoreline, while restrained brushwork allows the sea to merge almost imperceptibly with the distant horizon.

The composition recalls the long tradition of British coastal painting while remaining unmistakably contemporary in its simplicity and emotional restraint. The Artist

Trinidad Ball (born 1961) is an internationally recognised contemporary British realist painter whose atmospheric landscapes have earned widespread acclaim.

Born in Barcelona, she studied at Central Saint Martins, Putney School of Art and South Thames College before becoming a full-time professional artist in 2003. Her work has been exhibited extensively throughout Britain and internationally, including the Mall Galleries, the Society of Women Artists, the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition and the Affordable Art Fair in London and New York.

In 2008 she received the prestigious ING Maynell Fenton Prize in recognition of her contribution to contemporary painting. Today her work is represented in private collections throughout the United Kingdom and internationally.

The original oil surface is well preserved, retaining its delicate glazes, refined tonal transitions and subtle palette. There is no visible evidence of restoration, overpainting or structural concerns under normal inspection. The original painted wooden gallery frame displays light age-related wear, including occasional scuffs and small paint losses.
