This magnificent landscape portrays the rugged majesty of the Isle of Skye, with the towering peak of Sgùrr nan Gillean rising dramatically under a sky of swirling clouds. The foreground is rich with natural detail: scattered stones and boulders, lush moss, and earthy vegetation that leads the eye into the mountainous distance. About the Artist
Born near Haddington in 1831, William Beattie-Brown became one of Scotland’s most respected landscape painters, rising to Associate and then full member of the Royal Scottish Academy. He exhibited prolifically at the Scottish Academy and Royal Academy in London, earning widespread acclaim for his Highland landscapes. His works are held in major collections, including the Scottish National Gallery, and have reached auction prices up to $11,590 USD.
