Known for her beauty, intelligence, and courtly influence, she served as a Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Charlotte, and was a favourite subject for portrait artists of the era.

Although not executed by Reynolds himself, the portrait demonstrates a deep understanding of his techniques and philosophies. The unknown artist was clearly versed in his academic approach, capturing allegory and emotion with both skill and sensitivity.
