Here we have a nice example of a WWII M42 late-war Helmet that is accompanied with Normandy. It features a factory applied field gray or Feldgrau paint covered in three tone “Normandy” camouflage. Leather Liner present with chinstrap maker marked by “Gunt. Vogel/Cottbus” with further markings. The shell batch number can be made out as 3609 on the rear inside of shell but maker mark is unknown which is common to be light struck or faded in the paint over the years. The overall appearance shows a beautiful rustic patina mixed with the paint. Helmet was acquired from the Goliath Auction (Arnaud Dumont’s Famous Normandy Collection) held by a well regarded military auction house based in France, Historical Military Auctions. Originally this helmet was said to be found by a private individual in a house in Caen, the historic city in the Normandy region of Northwestern France. The helmet has been looked over by multiple German collectors and noted that the helmet looks good, with very nice paint and possibly replaced pins either during wartime or after.
