FINE VIKING SCRAMASAX, 8TH-10TH CENTURY AD

Description

8th-10th century AD. Slightly under 7" length. This is a thousand-year-old Viking throat-slashing weapon. Classic form with dropped point and near straight cutting edge. Tapered tang for mounting to a grip without a guard. This example is distinguished by the thinness of the blade, which verifies the it is not a work knife but a weapon. It is made for the single purpose of delivering a slashing wound. A working knife or multipurpose knife would be minimally, twice this thickness.
