ROMAN LEGIONARY'S SWORD BELT MOUNT NECKLACE MID 4TH CENTURY AD

Description

Original belt mount from a Roman Legionary's sword belt C.300-400AD. See Forum Ancient Coins for virtually identical examples and detailed information. While decorative, these mounts were, capable of protectively absorbing the impact of a sword blow. Thus, they are in fact, a form of Roman armor. This example is bronze under 5/8" (0.62") height and would have been mounted with another identical on a split belt. It has the 24karat gold surface restored and mounted on an 18" gilt silver mounted polished leather neck cord for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
