Description
Gilt bronze, 2 3/4" (2.83") inside dimension. Wrist opening 1 3/8" (1.42"). Slender circular section tapering slightly from the center to the zoomorphic terminals, identified as duck's heads. A burial at Fyrkat, Denmark contained the body of a woman of wealth and status buried with henbane seeds, which have hallucinogenic properties, and a wand as well as other objects. From these, archeologists concluded that she was a seeress or sorceress. (Among Vikings, only women were sorcerers.) The grave contained a necklace hung with three duck feet pendants identifying the duck as a familiar (spiritual assistant). Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored for modern wear. Jewelry gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
