Early 20th-century dance purse vanity compact in engraved silver-tone metal, featuring floral and foliate scrollwork surrounding an unmonogrammed oval cartouche. The hinged case has a chain handle and push-button clasp. Fitted interior includes two round coin holders, a rectangular lidded compartment and a purple velvet-lined panel with decorative retaining clamp. Clamp stamped “GERMAN SILVER.” German silver, also called nickel silver, is a copper, nickel and zinc alloy and is not sterling silver. Circa 1900–1920, considered late Edwardian and/or early Art Deco stylings.
