(American/Massachusetts, 1850-1921). Oil on canvas. Depicts a two-masted ship under sail with a steam powered sailboat in the rear. Signed lower left. Sight size: 17 1/2" high x 23 3/4" wide. In a period carved and gilded frame measuring: 25" high x 31" wide. At age eighteen he was shipwrecked at sea aboard the SUNBEAM. He studied at the Lowell Institute and the Boston Art Club. He exhibited at the National Academy as well as the Peabody Essex Museum. UV light shows minor inpainting. Frame shows substantial loss to gesso.
