Sam Francis (1923- 1994):- Born in California, Francis spent most of his early life there where he would attend California- Berkley. While recovering from an injury sustained in the Army, Francis turned to art as a way to cope with the difficulties. At Letterman Hospital, he met and studies with painter David Park. At this time his mastery of thinned acrylics and oils to make blot splotches became quite evident. This abstract, yet expressionist style was welcomed by the art community and lead to Francis being one of the most lauded artist of the 20th century.
