Painted by Margaret Brisbine in 1937, this portrait of a lovely lady in her white collared blouse and brunette hair is both stately and relaxing. The subject woman holds a floral scarf in her lap, as she rests in front of blue teal background - amid a gold wooden frame.

Presuming this classic painting is by Margaret Brisbine (1901-1970), a portrait artist trained at Rice Institute in Houston, Texas; under John Clark Tidden. Margaret then went to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for three years; and trained in Paris under scholarship. Spending time in Texas and New York, her portraits reportedly included the first portrait of the first female Governor of Texas.

Margaret Brisbine Preble's portraits are exhibited in two places in Congressional Office Buildings in DC; and are in the archives of Smithsonian and the Museum of Fine Arts - Houston. She also reportedly completed murals that were installed in Christ the King, St. Francis of Assisi, and St. Francis Xavier churches in New York and the Gulf Oil Company Building in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
