Description
Unusual watercolor piece depicting a farm worker in soft natural earth-tones with a plow pulled by an oxen team tilling the field. Circa 1930-1940s in the style of many WPA (Workers Progress Administration) works of the period. Watercolor is executed on handmade art paper, primarily in a neutral palette of brown, tan, black, but with some lavender added as an accent. Note how the artist has made the farmer's boots disappear into the dust rising up from the freshly plowed soil. Signed in pen lower right "J Lyman" for Julia Lyman. Ready to frame.
