A minstrel is a medieval singer or musician who might have sang or recited lyrics or poetry to a musical accompaniment for the nobility.

That being said this piece also has a comedic take to it, due to the exaggerated nose. We believe it's was part of the "act". We also believe that a sign/flag pole might have been originally part of the sculpture, due to the resting hole you see on the left hand. This is a conjecture of course as is the case that this is a minstrel to begin with. With old unique pieces like this some intelligent guess work is a necessity. So put another way you are buying what you see; a superb piece of history, no matter what it was. But we believe what we are claiming leans on the accurate.

Please also note that we believe the right foot might have been replaced at some point as it seems newer than the left foot. Also we believe the right arm might have come apart and glued back at some point. We are saying this due to the white residue by the elbow. All in all though a solid piece that is sure to be an inspiration and the conversation piece.
