Sunny and melancholy at the same time, this highly atmospheric painting depicts a family happily ensconced along a river bank, though at the centre is a male youth who is looking pensively into the distance. Dated 1938, this may come from the period when Felix Meseck (German, b. 1883- d. 1955) worked in Berlin and in Poland. Many of his paintings were destroyed during World War II, so this is a rare survivor.
