Elkhorn Tavern is a historical Civil War novel by Douglas C. Jones, published by Harper Collins in 1996. Set in the Arkansas Ozarks, it follows the Hasford family who"”with the husband away fighting for the Confederates"”struggle to survive and protect their farm as the brutal Battle of Pea Ridge.

Harry Schaare was a prolific artist for hard and softcover books. He designed covers for Zebra Publishing, Harper Collins, Kensington Publishing Co., Jove, and others. He also did magazine work for Saturday Evening Post, Boy's Life, Sports Illustrated, and various men's adventure magazines. He always retained the original paintings.
