I created Morning in the Palace to capture the dissonant moment of departure, where the morning light arrives not as comfort but as an intruder. The painting features a figure caught in a "sun-drenched" transition between a night of private compromise and a day of public resilience. I used vibrant yellow highlights on the skin to visually manifest the feeling of being exposed, marking the point where the sanctuary of the dark ends and the "sovereign shadow" of power begins to weigh most heavily. Set against rigid, window-like grids, the subject's expression is a study in "radical readiness."

In this work, I explore the "hidden history" of a secret encounter, honoring the dignity of one who has survived the complexities of status and devotion. While the subject's state suggests a profound vulnerability, her steady gaze reflects the strength required to walk away from the "throne" with her soul intact.
