Description
A lovely Royal Copenhagen Faience Porcelain Tenera Pitcher by Berte Jessen, complete with lid and signed by the artist BJ. This design was produced in the 1960s. Rich cobalt blues with purple and black accents depict a floral motif with dot and scalloped trim around the pitcher's neck and lid. The folk-inspired, joyful mid-century Scandinavian stylization is iconic of the pitcher's place and time, and this utilitarian piece of art is in excellent condition. It is the perfect size to hold cream for your morning coffee or afternoon tea.
Berte Jessen was an artist for Royal Copenhagen under Nils Thorsson. She was brought into the company in 1958 to help create a new style for the 1960's. Royal Copenhagen is a Danish manufacturer of porcelain dishes and objects, founded in Copenhagen in 1775 under the protection of Danish Dowager Queen Juliane Marie. It is officially the Royal Porcelain Factory and is recognized by its factory mark: three wavy lines symbolizing Denmark's three waterways. Their first pieces were dining pieces created for the royal family.
