The rectangular hinged lid is inset with burgundy leather bordered in gilt tooling and opens on brass stays to a fitted compartment containing a removable cream-glazed earthenware liner. The boldly serpentine front is veneered in richly figured mahogany above a concealed pull-out step with a matching leather tread. The step, apron, and front legs move as a single assembly. The figured front exhibits veneer cracking, particularly near the lower right case junction. Leather panels have rubbing, scratches, fading, surface wear, and loss to the gilt borders. The ceramic liner exhibits widespread crazing, staining, rim chips, and glaze losses. The pull-out step is present and shown extended.
