The rectangular white marble top rests above a cove-molded mahogany frieze supported by two alabaster columns with gilt-metal lotus-form capitals, probably bronze. A gold-stenciled anthemion border frames the mirrored back above a shaped platform centered by a radiating fan-veneered medallion with contrasting stringing. Bold carved, ebonized, and gilt vase-form rear supports terminate with block rear feet and gadrooned ball front feet. The sophisticated materials and ornamental vocabulary correspond component for component with a virtually identical Quervelle table in the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields.Dimensions: 39 in. Condition: Presents exceptionally well with scattered scratches, abrasions, finish variation, veneer shrinkage, small veneer and edge losses, and localized old repairs. The marble top exhibits staining, surface wear, minor edge abrasions, and small chips consistent with age. Scattered rubbing and losses to the gilt and ebonized decoration. The alabaster columns exhibit minor surface marks and natural variation. The mirror plate shows scattered deterioration, spotting, and silver loss. Surface and gilding may have received restoration or refreshing. The rear feet are of block form, corresponding to the documented museum example.
