Title: Stevens & Williams Jewel Ware Scent Bottle

 

Description: Stevens & Williams jewel ware pink glass scent bottle of circular form, registration number 55693 on the base dates  it to 06/09/1886.  Jewel ware (now called zipper pattern) was produced by threading a bulb of glass and casing the bulb in flint. The process would trap the air between each thread under the outer layer. The bulb was then blown into a ribbed mould which squeezed the air sideways from under the rib into vertical rows of bubbles between the ribs.   Silver screw on cap, hallmarked Charles May, Birmingham 1896. the date difference suggests the cap may be a replacement.
