Archive of approximately 90 vintage original Type I baseball photographs and related period newspaper clippings, dating primarily from the 1950s and 1960s and preserved within 13 period manila subject folders, each measuring approximately 16.25" x 13.25". The collection is comprised predominantly of 8" x 10" photographs or larger, including numerous impressive oversized prints, with examples ranging from approximately 3" x 4" to 16" x 11". The archive captures a broad range of Major League Baseball history, including dramatic game action, plays at the plate and on the bases, pitchers and batters in competition, players, team images, stadium scenes, and other newsworthy moments. The original folders retain period organizational notations identifying subjects including the 1952, 1958, 1959, 1960, and 1961 World Series, the 1955 All-Star Game, Chicago White Sox fans, World Series fans, and additional baseball-related material. Many of the photographs retain period newspaper and editorial notations, crop marks, production markings, and hand-applied retouching and shading used in preparing the images for publication. Numerous examples also retain their original newspaper publication clippings affixed to the reverse, documenting the photographs as they appeared in print and providing compelling evidence of their contemporary use within the newspaper production process. As Type I photographs, these are vintage original photographic prints produced from the original negatives within approximately two years of the images being taken, rather than later-generation or modern reproductions. Particularly noteworthy is the quantity of large-format and oversized original photographs, providing exceptional detail and visual impact. Overall in very good condition, with handling wear commensurate with age and period use. An exceptional surviving archive of original mid-century baseball press photography, with its period filing system, original publication clippings, editorial and production markings, oversized imagery, and extensive World Series content offering a fascinating glimpse into both Major League Baseball history and the era's newspaper photo-production process.
