Remarkable archive of more than 30 color and black-and-white photographs documenting The Rolling Stones in a compelling series of candid, behind-the-scenes, and performance images spanning various points in the band's career. Drawn directly from the personal collection of music industry executive Chip Rachlin, the photographs offer an unusually intimate view of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Charlie Watts, and others, capturing the band backstage, in dressing and rehearsal areas, in transit, during performances, and in other informal settings far removed from traditional publicity photography. The archive is particularly significant in light of Rachlin's direct professional relationship with the band. Rachlin worked alongside legendary concert promoter Bill Graham as a tour administrator for The Rolling Stones' 1981–82 tours, providing him with extraordinary behind-the-scenes access to the band during this period. Particularly compelling are numerous close-range and candid photographs of Jagger, Richards, Wood, and Watts, including Richards and Wood pictured with their guitars backstage, Jagger photographed informally behind the scenes, and intimate images of the musicians relaxing among members of the band's entourage. Other photographs document performances and preparations surrounding shows, including images associated with the band's January 1982 appearance in Paris, photographs with MTV VJ Martha Quinn, and material from several other events and settings. Many of the photographs possess the unmistakable character of images taken from within the band's working environment, with their informal compositions, backstage settings, proximity to the musicians, and unguarded moments providing a fascinating visual record of life surrounding The Rolling Stones. Several of the photographs appear to be unpublished and may never before have been publicly shared, further adding to the archival significance of the collection. The photographs range from approximately 3.5" x 5" to 8" x 10", with both black-and-white and full-color prints represented. All are in overall fine condition, with minimal wear. Charles "Chip" Rachlin (1949–2023) built a distinguished career in the music and entertainment industry spanning more than five decades. His passion for live music began as a teenager promoting concerts while attending Summit High School before joining legendary concert promoter Bill Graham at the Fillmore East. Mentored by industry executive Herb Spar, Rachlin later joined ICM in Los Angeles, where he became Billy Joel's first booking agent while also representing artists including the Eagles, the Beach Boys, America, and many others. Rachlin later managed The Kinks before reuniting with Bill Graham as tour administrator for the Rolling Stones' landmark 1981 and 1982 tours. During the early years of MTV, he served as Director of Acquisitions before founding his own production company, Screenlink, where he continued consulting for and managing artists throughout the entertainment industry. Drawn from Chip Rachlin's personal archive, this collection reflects a lifetime spent at the center of the music business. Featured throughout are vintage concert T-shirts, music industry sales awards, vintage concert posters—including several original Bill Graham concert posters—behind-the-scenes photographs, original documents, and other artifacts accumulated over decades in the industry.
