Gabriel Antoine Barlangue1 is a French cartoonist, engraver, illustrator and painter, born in Villeneuve-sur-Lot on February 24, 1874 and died in Charenton-le-Pont on April 7, 1956 (at the age of 82).

He was a laureate of the Toulouse School of Fine Arts. He went to Paris in 1893 where he was received first out of 550 competitors and joined the Ecole Nationale des beaux-arts where he acquired his know-how from his masters, the painters Jean-Paul Laurens (1838-1921) and Benjamin Constant (1845-1902). He trained in engraving with Jean Patricot (portraitist, chisel engraver and lithographer), Henri-Emile Lefort (eaugraver) and especially Antonin Delzers (chisel and etching engraver).

He regularly participated in the Salon de la Societe des artistes francais from 1900 where he exhibited paintings, engravings and drawings, landscapes, portraits as well as scenes of daily life or religious scenes. He received several awards from 1902, the silver medal in 1924, and two years later, the gold medal. He was a member of the jury in 1927.

Antonin Delzes introduced him to the world of postal competitions. He made his first stamp, "Jeanne d'Arc", in 1928. From 1937 to 1953, he engraved 31 French stamps, 27 stamps for the colonies and some foreign countries.

Around 1930, he set up his workshop in Charenton-le-Pont where he had a press to indulge in his second passion, engraving.

In the 1930s, Archpriest Francois Descuns commissioned the paintings of the choir of the Sainte-Catherine church in Villeneuve-sur-Lot. Those of the cul-de-four are made by Gabriel Antoine Barlangue.
