This painting is very much of the American Regionalist school and period. It is signed "Edward Carlson" in the lower right. It is in very good condition, as is the very nice wood frame, which goes very well with the painting. I believe the artist is Edward L. Carlson, an artist born in the early 20th century in Rockford, Illinois. (I have seen works signed "Edward L. Carlson" and "Edward Carlson". The works appear to be by the same artist and the signatures look the same except for the "L". ) Edward L. Carlson was active in Rockford IL. He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1936, 1938, 1939 and 1940. In the 1940 exhibition, he exhibited a work titled "Steele's Garage", definitely a Regionalist sounding title.
