Charles H. Clair (1860-1930), was a French painter and engraver of local subjects, landscapes and animals. He was best known for his pastoral paintings of sheep and cows; among his works are pastoral paintings and paintings with shepherds and flocks at pasture, rustic landscapes, shepherdesses, women washing laundry and harvest scenes. Clair regularly exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais where he became a member in 1913.
