Description
Donald Purdy ( 1924-2016) was a well-known art dealer from Newton, Connecticut. A self-taught painter, Purdy is often seen as a "colorist" often working in bold colors, surprising since he suffered from color blindness. His process involved painting in thin layers of paint building the surface up either on cameo board mounted to masonite or directly on masonite. See "Donald Purdy: Intuitive Painter," American Artist, April 1962.
