Description
We are selling this important small painting by American artist George Biddle (1885-1973). Biddle was a well known artist who spent time studying and painting around important American artists, his friends included Diego Rivera, Mary Cassatt and Franklin Roosevelt among others. Biddle was well regarded as one of the premier mural painters during the same period as Rivera but is less well known. This painting is most likely of tribal figures from Tahiti, which he painted early in his career. The date of this painting puts it right before he moved to Los Angeles. The painting is signed in the paint and dated 1954 in the lower right. The painting has heavy paint flaking and is in need of stabilization and restoration.
