Description: An unusual American late Victorian octagonal bedside commode or cabinet. The conforming white marble top rests above a shaped drawer and paneled cabinet door opening to a blue-painted interior. Ebonized surfaces are enriched with mother-of-pearl and possibly abalone shell floral inlay, gilt scrolling ornament, delicate line borders, and polychrome accents. The faceted case terminates in a scalloped apron, short angular feet, and casters. Part of a coordinated bedroom suite offered as Lots 78A-78E.

Condition
Retains an old ebonized and decorated surface with scratches, abrasions, edge wear, craquelure, fading, paint drips, scattered retouching, and finish loss. Shell inlay exhibits scattered losses, lifting, replacements, and irregularities. Marble has scratches, staining, discoloration, and edge wear. Blue-painted interior has wear, staining, scratches, and surface loss.
