John Margolies, fascinated by the wide variety of America’s roadside attractions encountered on family road trips in his youth, later became a champion of American novelty and "Googie" architecture. For more than 40 years Margolies traveled throughout the country documenting this disappearing cultural phenomenon. His years of devotion culminated in The John Margolies Roadside America Photograph Archive housed at the Library of Congress. According to the website it is “one of the most comprehensive documentary studies of vernacular commercial structures along main streets, byways, and highways throughout the United States in the twentieth century.“
