Modernist Silver & Gold Earrings set with 8x6 mm Citrine. In 1996 Gerhard Herbst studios began exploring ways to incorporate gemstones into Herbst's Anticlastic forms. The outcome of these investigations resulted in the columniation of ten works that utilized tension setting as a solution to fit semiprecious stones into his pieces. Pinwheel earrings was produced from 1996 to 2000 and although several works were manufactured in sterling this piece is one of only four produced in sterling silver and 14k Gold.

Modernist designer, Gerhard Herbst translates sculptural form into the jewelry medium. Popularly known for his spatial shapes and fluid manipulations of metal, Herbst began producing his unique style of jewelry in 1975. Herbst continued to study both sculpture and jewelry design at San Diego State University, and upon graduating he established his jewelry studio in Ocean Beach California. Adopting a wholesale manufacturing business model, Herbst would reproduce designs which he would then sell to leading museum shops and galleries throughout the United States. Although no edition numbers were set, total production was limited as each piece was individually and personally handcrafted by the artist.
