A Chinese hand-carved soapstone double brush pot featuring five monkeys. The piece is sculpted from a single block of light celadon-grey soapstone characterized by a waxy luster and natural ochre-colored mineral inclusions. Two central hollow cylindrical vessels serve as pen or brush holders, flanked by five monkeys in interactive, playful poses that form a tower or pyramid arrangement. The figures are set upon a base with a rocky-textured surface and decorative notched cutouts along the front edge. Incised lines are used to define the facial features and fur of the monkeys. The underside of the piece features a large, recessed area with visible tool marks from the manual carving process. There are no maker marks, signatures, or inscriptions present on the item. 4.5 x3 in
