Description

Reverse-painted glass portrait of Robert Burns after Alexander Nasmyth, the Scottish bard shown half-length in brown coat, white stock, and striped waistcoat, with characteristic dark curls and ruddy complexion, circa 1830.

Technique executed in black and earth tones on the reverse with protective varnish, housed in period Regency giltwood frame under museum glass.

Sight: 7 1/4 by 9 inches; frame: 16 by 17 1/2 inches.
