Description
Antique L. Mirval French Art Deco Terracotta Pottery Child Bust Sculpture on Pedestal Base
For your consideration is a beautiful antique molded terracotta pottery bust of a young child, meticulously crafted by the artist L. Mirval, circa 1920s. This captivating piece showcases a naturalistic, soulful rendering of a child's head and shoulders with finely detailed, flowing wavy curls. The warm, matte terracotta finish boasts excellent tonal depth, accentuating the soft contours of the child's face and neck. The sculpture is mounted onto a substantial, solid black cube pedestal base, providing an elegant Art Deco or classical contrast that makes it perfect for a mantel, library shelf, or statement entryway piece. The artist's hand-incised script signature, "L. Mirval," is clearly visible on the lower right back shoulder of the bust.
L. Mirval (often associated with or sharing a studio designation with French Art Deco sculptor Claude Mirval) was active in France during the early 20th century. The clean, simplified rendering of the child's wavy hair and the choice of a sharp, geometric black cube base are classic design hallmarks of the French Art Deco period.Production Method: It was molded and hand-finished in a French pottery studio during this interwar period before being imported or collected abroad.
