Provenance and Authentication:
According to the Letter of Authenticity (LOA) and Certificate of Authenticity (COA) provided by the consignor, this collectible was subjected to a forensic examination. The accompanying documentation states that the signatures were evaluated with reference to multiple characteristics, including ink deposition, material and aging characteristics, stylistic consistency, and historical context. Based on the examination described in these documents, the authentication provider concluded that the findings were consistent with the attributed signatures. The LOA and COA provided by the consignor accompany the lot.

A signed drawing bearing the signature of Ronald Searle (1920-2011), depicting two eccentric cats seated together in a characteristically humorous composition. One is rendered with a broad, rounded body and decorative collar, while its companion assumes a taller, sharply tapered silhouette. Their exaggerated expressions and contrasting physiques give the pair an unmistakably comic personality.

Cats occupy a particularly recognizable place within Searle's body of work. Rather than treating them as conventional animal studies, he frequently transformed feline subjects through exaggerated anatomy, unruly fur, expressive eyes, and energetic linear movement. The present composition employs numerous fine, radiating strokes to suggest whiskers and fur, while the sweeping tails and deliberately distorted proportions reinforce the nervous energy and satirical humor associated with his drawings.

The work bears a Ronald Searle signature at lower left. The autograph is executed in a rapid cursive hand, with closely connected letterforms, low horizontal movement, and fluid abbreviated strokes.
