Jakiw Pohrebynsky, aka Jack Pohr (1918-2003), was known for his distinctive, heavy impasto, or "raised paint" technique, where paint is built up in certain areas for emphasis, giving the work an almost three-dimensional quality.

The artist became nationally famous as a portraitist and landscape painter, with his clients including many prominent figures, including Averell Harriman and President John F. Kennedy.
