Description
Oil on Linen painting of her son, Ray Rogers, by listed California artist Virginia Sevier Rogers (American, 1916-2015). Signed on verso with her monogram "VSR" (the line for the R is the "S"), Dated 1950. Rogers studied with Hugh Breckenridge at the PAFA in 1934 and then earned a B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina and her M.A. at UC Berkeley. From the early 1940s she was the wife of a naval officer and living in Shanghai and other places. She returned to Berkeley in 1950 and had an active art career. In 1971 she moved to the Monterey Peninsula and purchased a farm on the Carmel Valley Road. At her studio she taught small classes and produced paintings, batik, pottery, sculpture, and a line of note cards on hand-made paper. Unframed
