"Ode to van Eyck's Self Portrait," 2012 series by e2 Elizabeth Kleinveld and Epaul Julien. A photography project, In Empathy We Trust, a collaboration series of old master paintings re-imagined. Their subjects role-play different depictions of race, age, and sexual orientation, they ask the viewers to question their own perceptions. They personify a playful and humorous wit, with the intention that viewers will see how visual stereotypes can lead to prejudice and discrimination. Their work has been exhibited at the Octavia Art Gallery, Jonathan Ferrara Gallery, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans, Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and the Museum Castelvecchio in Verona.
