This is a rare original hand colored engraving after the 1797 painting by George Morland (British, 1763-1804). It is titled "Selling Cherries". The engraving was done by Edward Bell and Published by Thomas Ladd in 1801. The beautiful wood and gesso frame is 30.25"x23.75" in size.
The image shows two women in rustic dress selling cherries outside a cottage, from paniers carried by a mule. The younger woman is selling to a soldier. The older woman is teasing a dog with a cherry while a child reaches up to her. A little girl and a boy in the right foreground quarrel over a hat-full of cherries.
