Description
This antique hand-colored copperplate engraving depicts the legendary "Hirsch von 66 Enden" (stag with 66 points), a celebrated royal hunting trophy commemorated in German hunting lore. The sheet bears a period Augsburg imprint crediting Johann Elias Ridinger (German, 1698-1767), reading in the plate:
"Joh. El. Ridinger del. sculps. et excudit Aug. Vind."
("drawn, engraved, and published in Augsburg" - Augusta Vindelicorum).
The image is richly detailed with a strong intaglio impression and hand-applied color. The inscription references the historic hunt dated September 18, 1696 near Furstenwalde; this date refers to the event commemorated, not the production date of the print itself.
