Description
Manuel Robbe, AKA: Alphonse Lafitte (1872-1936) was a brilliant printmaker who mastered the aquatint technique. He was born in Paris, shortly after the Franco-Prussian War.
Robbe attended the Academie Julian and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and was mentored in his etching and aquatint methods by Eugene Delatre. By 1898, he was exhibiting at the Salon of the Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts, having changed his commitment from the Societe des Artistes Francais. Along with Jacques Villon, Robbe was promoted by Edmond Sagot, a Parisian publisher who was one of the most prominent print publishers in Western culture at the turn of the century.
