Chinese huaniao scroll, a bird and flower scroll in freely drawn, colored inks on silk, mounted on a shimering, gray and gold silk brocade in a wanzi lattice pattern, signed at the middle left, in xingshu script, with three, red, seal marks and five more red seal marks at the lower left and right of the image The image size is 22.5" wide x 41.25" high. With a tan cord makio and kakio at the top and maroon jikusaki at the bottom. The outer scroll covering repeats that of the mounting. Circa Republic of China era.

A finely drawn and detailed pair of Chinese red-crowned cranes are foraging on the rocky banks of a small, mountain brook, below a gnarled, flowering plum tree and pine, amid bamboo, flowering bushes, grasses and shrubs. A distant mountain peak fades into the mists at the upper right.
