-Chrix Dahl was the son of Naval Officer Axel Dahl and his wife Lilly f. Steen. [5] He grew up in Ullern, where he was a neighbor of Edvard Munch's Ekely. [6] Dahl studied under Eivind Nielsen at the Norwegian School of Arts and Crafts (1924-25) and Axel Revold at the Norwegian Academy of Fine Arts (1925-32). He made his debut with Blomqvist in 1930.

Dahl worked for a long time as head teacher for the erasing class at the Norwegian School of Arts and Crafts (1945-74), including Hakon Bleken (1950) and Finn Graff (1959-63). Dahl traveled in Southern Europe, including to Venice in 1929. The trip led to several etchings that were displayed at the North Norwegian Art Museum before he had his debut exhibition in 1930.
