Space Shuttle Program Personal Preference Kit, Possibly Flown!
Relic
Personal Preference Kit, NASA Part No. SDD12100370-301, Serial No. 5008. Class I flight hardware possibly flown, although its flight history is unknown. These kits, made of fire-resistant Nomex, were used to carry an astronaut's personal effects during Space Shuttle missions. Each astronaut was permitted to carry 20 items that could fit into one PPK, which was stored on the Shuttle in a compartment inaccessible to the crew during flight. Prior to being loaded into the shuttle, the PPK was handled by ground support personnel using white cotton gloves, which may account for its near pristine condition. Note a NASA contractor printed the ID labels with the wrong dash number on an entire batch; this is one from that batch which has a corrected dash number in ink "-301" from what was originally printed "-701". Measures to an overall size of 6" x 9", with a gusset that opens approximately 1.75" wide. Purchased as NASA surplus.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
