Truly exceptional pair of signed vintage expertly hand sculpted and painted figures of the Chinese Gods of the Three Stars or Sanxing which are The gods of the constellations considered essential in Chinese astrology and mythology. Their iconic representation as three old, bearded, wise men dates back to the Ming Dynasty, when the gods of the three stars were represented in human form for the first time.
Fu is the star God symbolizing blessings, prosperity and happiness as a result of good fortune. He is generally depicted in scholars dress, holding a scroll And often seen holding a child or surrounded by children.
Shou is the god of longevity and is most often found represented independently of his two costar gods. Xiao Shing most often is represented by a prominent forehead and the "peach of immortality" that he carries or a peach wood staff.
These two sculptures are extremely unusual due to not only their exceptional detailing but because they both are standing on an unexpected platform... One being a dragon and the other being a tortoise. These figures happen to be the perfect size to sit on a mantle or down the center of your dining table.
