Description
This is part of Chairish's Costume Jewelry assortment.
Offered here is a massive Mid-Century Modern abstract gold-plated emerald crystal bracelet from the 1940s. The construction consists of seven solid platforms connected by built-in links and hooks; each section expresses a stylized double-leaf design surmounted by an abstract form presenting five tendrils pave-set with small clear crystals and anchored by an oval emerald crystal stone. The linked design is supple, and the three-dimensional quality of the motif creates a vibrant play of warm light and color. The fold-over clasp is embellished with a few small clear crystals, and is crisp and secure. All components are hand-soldered and beautifully finished. This is a singular and bold statement piece, nuanced in execution and substantial on the wrist. It is notated with multiple hand-etched letters and numbers on the reverse of the final link; several are lined through, and the last intact one reads "ARL". This leads me to suppose that this might have been a movie prop, worn perhaps in an M-G-M extravaganza in the war years; or perhaps Joan Crawford wore it while slinking across a drawing room in a killer gown? In any event, it's a spectacular piece, sure to elicit oooohs and aaahs from your envious friends. All the stones are brilliant and clear, and the emerald stones have a rich saturated color; there is some very slight wear to the gold plating on the reverse. Dimensions: 7.5"L x 1.5"W
