Shiny black lacquerware over papier mache with lavishly gilded decoration
Extremely fine hand painted in gold near-water scene, featuring two ducks under a blooming cherry tree (aka sacura)
The design continues with two butterflies on the back
Serene nature in harmony with the exquisite Japanese aesthetics
Well signed at the back with 3 Japanese kanji characters
Most likely made in Aizu, Fukushima Prefecture, renown for its lacquerware
Circa early 20th century, Meiji/Taisho period
Measurements: Approximately 5" x 2.75" x 0.75" overall, the opening of the inner part is 0.75" x 0.5"
Condition: Very Good overall. Please see photos. Some minor scuffs here and there, especially around the edge, commensurate with age and use. No major defects. All original.
